Initially Playrite’s brief was to cover the company’s driving range in green carpet, to replicate
the fairways, however working alongside the contractors, we realised there was an opportunity to create something unique to World of Golf.
Taking inspiration from the Medina Golf Course, in the USA, we decided to introduce 6 targets, featuring rough fairways and water hazards, to replicate a real golf course.
This fantastic new facility was created using over 3 miles of seaming tape and a variety of Playrite products to give texture and realism.
Foundation, a high performance, heavy duty, low maintenance surface, completed the bulk of the surfacing. Nearlygrass, artificial leisure grass with a longer natural-looking pile height, was used to create the ‘rough’ areas and Matchwinner velour, a bright and vibrant surface solution, was then used in Blue to mimic water hazards.
Despite some arduous conditions, which included snow, temperatures of -5C and the dark, the new range was completed just 18 days, from removal of the old carpet to the final finished design.
World of Golf, New Malden now boasts a stunning, user friendly driving range with 60 new bays, power tees, carpet and running water.
As well as improving the range aesthetically, the new design has also reduced labour costs by cutting the number of staff required to collect golf balls by 90%.
